Landmark Report on the Family Caregiver Experience, Driving Urgent Innovation in Aging-in-Place Technologies Released by Carnegie Foundry and Stand Together Ventures Lab

New Report Underscores Demand for Tech-Enabled, Affordable, and Empowering Solutions for Caregivers and Their Families

July 15, 2025 – Pittsburgh, PA/Arlington, VA

Carnegie Foundry, a leading venture studio for AI and robotics commercialization, in collaboration with Stand Together Ventures Lab (STVL), an early-stage social impact investment firm, released the “Family Caregiver Experience with Aging at Home Consumer Research Report.” This groundbreaking research offers an in-depth look into the unmet needs, emotional burdens, and purchasing behavior of family caregivers supporting aging loved ones at home—and reveals a clear and growing demand for technology that prioritizes autonomy, affordability, and dignity.

“Technology has the power to close the gap in care access, especially when it’s built with empathy and purpose. Caregivers are ready for tools that make their lives easier and their loved ones safer,” said Dr. Robert J. Szczerba, CEO of Carnegie Foundry. “These findings underscore a fundamental disconnect between what caregivers need and what the healthcare marketplace currently provides.”

“This research confirms our investment belief – a future of health care where people, not systems, are the customers to serve,” said Jacob Rabinowitz, Managing Director, Stand Together Ventures Lab. “Caregivers are already making purchasing decisions for solutions that deliver real value. That’s a transformative market signal.”

Among the report’s most striking findings:

  • 84% of caregivers report already using or strongly considering in-home sensor technology to support their loved ones.
  • Integration with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems—often a top focus for enterprise tech—is among the least important features for caregivers.
  • Most caregivers are willing to pay directly for tech solutions that reduce their stress and enhance peace of mind.
  • The current caregiving ecosystem suffers from inconsistent quality and a lack of scalable, consumer-friendly solutions, opening a powerful lane for consumer-focused innovation.

The report paints a vivid picture of the daily struggles caregivers face. Their top concerns include:

  • Balancing personal and professional responsibilities (34.4%),
  • Managing ongoing anxiety (26.7%),
  • Coping with the emotional toll of witnessing a loved one’s decline (16.7%).
